New Delhi / Agartala,
The Indian National Congress and its trade union wing, the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), launched nationwide protests today against the Central Government’s newly implemented labour codes, calling them “anti-worker” and “draconian.”

The four revised labour codes—covering wages, industrial relations, social security, and occupational safety—came into force across the country from Friday. Congress leaders argued that the changes weaken job protection, limit trade union rights, and give disproportionate power to employers.

Along with major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, Agartala also witnessed strong demonstrations, with INTUC members, government employees, and workers from various sectors marching through the streets. Protesters in Agartala submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate, demanding the rollback of the labour codes and urging the government to hold wider consultations with labour organizations.

Meanwhile, the central government maintains that the new labour codes modernize outdated laws, simplify compliance for industries, and will ultimately help boost employment.

Protests across India, including Agartala, are expected to continue as trade unions plan more coordinated actions in the coming days.
