During the state’s tribute to Chaolung Sukapha, the founder of the Ahom dynasty who entered Assam in 1228 AD and established a long-lasting rule, Sarma highlighted that the idea of Bor Asom reflects Sukapha’s ideal of unity and collective strength.
In a message shared on X, the Chief Minister said that on Asom Divas, the state renews its resolve to move towards a proud and harmonious Assam.

Sarma also expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his greetings on the occasion. He said the Centre and the state government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, have worked consistently to protect and promote the cultural heritage of the Ahom civilisation at the national and international levels.

Amit Shah, extending warm wishes to the people of Assam, said Asom Divas honours the remarkable legacy of the Ahom era and reinforces India’s commitment to safeguarding Assam’s cultural wealth. He added that the NDA government has helped bring stability, development, and new opportunities to the Northeast, positioning Assam as a rising centre for education and innovation.

In another announcement made on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Sui-Ka-Pha University will now be known as Su-Ka-Pha University. He noted that the institution, with its growing range of academic disciplines, represents another step towards the inclusive and united Assam envisioned by Sukapha.
