Cough Syrup Worth ₹1.08 Crore Seized in Assam; Lorry Driver Arrested
Assam Police seized banned Eskuf cough syrup worth ₹1.08 crore at Churaibari Check Gate during a routine inspection. The lorry driver from Malda, West Bengal, was arrested. The consignment was reportedly en route from Kolkata to Tripura.

In a major anti-narcotics operation, Assam Police on Sunday seized a huge consignment of banned Eskuf cough syrup worth over ₹1.08 crore during a routine check at Churaibari Check Gate under Bazaarichara Police Station.
According to police reports, the cough syrup was being smuggled from Kolkata to Tripura when officers intercepted a lorry (WB23D-7176) around 12 noon. On conducting a detailed search, police discovered 21,600 bottles of Eskuf syrup hidden inside tar drums, along with chemical-based powder.
The vehicle driver, Said Afridi (28), hailing from Malda district, West Bengal, was immediately detained. The seizure operation was led by Pranab Mili, the in-charge of the Churaibari Watch Post.
Police estimate the black-market value of the confiscated narcotic syrup at ₹1.08 crore. Authorities confirmed that a case under the NDPS Act will be registered against the accused.
