North Tripura Police Arrest Another Active TUNF Militant from Mizoram

North Tripura Police, led by Bhungmun PS OC Rinpuia Darlong, arrested Lalthanga Riang, an active member of the banned militant organization TUNF, from Mizoram following a confidential tip-off. The arrested militant, a resident of Bhandarima in Kanchanpur subdivision, has been charged under relevant IPC sections and the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. He was transferred to Kanchanpur Police Station and presented in the Sub-Divisional Court. The arrest has received widespread appreciation from local residents.

In a significant success for North Tripura Police, another active member of the banned militant organization TUNF was apprehended from the neighboring state of Mizoram. This comes shortly after a TUNF member was arrested last Thursday from the Damdum area of Damschar, Panisagar subdivision.

Acting on a confidential tip-off, a police team led by Bhungmun Police Station OC Rinpuia Darlong conducted an operation on Wednesday in the Zumpui Hills area of Mizoram, resulting in the arrest of Lalthanga Riang, an active TUNF militant. According to police sources, the arrested militant is a resident of Bhandarima area under Anandbazar Police Station, Kanchanpur subdivision, North Tripura, and the son of Harimonohon Riang.

The police have registered a case against the arrested individual under Bhungmun Police Station FIR No. 2025VGM007, invoking sections 61(2)(a), 148, 310(4) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. For security reasons, the militant was transferred from Bhungmun Police Station to Kanchanpur Police Station on Wednesday night and produced in the Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday.

The arrest has created a buzz in the local area, with residents expressing satisfaction over the police’s effective action. Kanchanpur Sub-Division Police Officer Ashish Kumar Thakur provided detailed comments on the operation and emphasized the continued vigilance against militant activities in the region.
