In a major breakthrough, security forces in Manipur recovered 86 arms and approximately 974 rounds of various ammunition during a large-scale joint operation on Tuesday, according to senior officials.

Based on specific intelligence inputs regarding hidden arms in the Imphal valley, simultaneous search operations were launched across five districts: Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching. The coordinated effort involved teams from Manipur Police, Army, Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

Of the 86 firearms recovered, 16 were Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), nine rifles, five AK-series rifles, five .303 rifles, three INSAS rifles, 19 pistols, two carbines, 16 SBBL and Bore Action rifles, two anti-riot guns, and 11 other types of firearms. The recovered ammunition included grenades, mortar shells, high explosives, tube launchers, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Additionally, 41 assorted magazines and six wireless handsets were seized.

Officials emphasized that these intelligence-led operations are part of continuous efforts to restore peace and public safety in Manipur. The Manipur Police called upon the public to support law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities or information regarding illegal arms stockpiles.

Senior police officers assured that coordination with security agencies would continue to ensure peace, maintain public order, and protect citizens’ lives and property. Notably, this recovery marks the second major seizure within a month, reflecting the sustained push against illegal arms in the region.
