Biometric Listing of Myanmar and Bangladeshi Refugees Begins in Mizoram’s Lunglei District
The Mizoram government has launched a biometric registration drive for refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh residing in rural areas of Lunglei district. Due to poor internet connectivity, both online and offline methods will be used. Ten biometric teams have been formed, and 27 personnel have been trained for the process. The initiative aims to accurately identify displaced persons using demographic and biometric data, starting from Ramthar camp and expanding to eight other camps across the district.

The Mizoram government has initiated biometric registration of refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh residing in rural areas of the state. Due to poor internet connectivity in several interior locations, the process will be carried out both online and offline.
Officials stated that training sessions have already been conducted for officers handling the biometric registration and data collection. According to a statement released on Saturday, the biometric enrolment process officially commenced in Lunglei, targeting refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Behmotausa of Lunglei informed that foreigner identification portals and biometric tools will be used to record demographic details. While the online system will be used primarily, offline methods have also been set up for areas with poor connectivity.
The district-level committee on refugee affairs, which includes officials and relevant departments, organized the training. The main objective was to ensure the accurate identification of displaced individuals and to equip field officers accordingly.
ASP Behmotausa also mentioned that so far, 10 biometric teams have been formed, and necessary equipment has been acquired from the Home Department. The registration drive will begin this month from the Ramthar camp and extend to eight more camps within the district.
In total, 27 personnel have been trained by master trainers to carry out the process efficiently.
