Tension resurfaced in the Baramura Hills as members of the surrendered hostile NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) group staged a blockade on the Assam–Agartala National Highway late Sunday night, demanding fulfillment of long-pending assurances made by the government. The group issued a 48-hour ultimatum, alleging that several commitments promised under the surrender agreement remain unimplemented even after a long time.

According to the group, despite repeatedly drawing the attention of the administration, no concrete steps were taken to address their demands. Left with no alternative, they resorted to blocking the National Highway to press for immediate action.

The blockade, which began late Sunday night, caused severe inconvenience to the general public. With the highway remaining closed through the night and early morning hours, a large number of passenger and goods-laden vehicles were stranded on both sides. Long queues of vehicles were seen stretching from the Baramura Hills to Hawaibari following several hours of disruption.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, a large contingent of police personnel along with senior administrative officials rushed to the blockade site. After prolonged discussions, the administration assured the protesters that their demands would be forwarded to higher authorities and that efforts would be made for a speedy resolution. Following the assurance, the surrendered group finally withdrew the blockade.

After the blockade was lifted, vehicular movement gradually returned to normal. However, the incident has once again raised concerns over security and stability in the Baramura Hills region.
