In a significant development from Tripura, the brother of BJP leader and former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik has been detained by police for alleged involvement in cross-border trafficking linked to Bangladesh, according to website Tripurainfoway.
The report states that the detention followed an operation based on intelligence inputs suggesting suspected illegal movement of individuals across the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Fake Documentation Seized for Verification
According to website Tripurainfoway, police recovered multiple identity documents during the search, some of which are suspected to be forged.
Officials confirmed that the materials have been sent for forensic examination, and no final confirmation has been made yet.
A senior police officer, without naming the accused, said:
“The matter is still under investigation. Detention does not imply guilt. Further action will depend on verified evidence.”
