Three Electricity Department Workers Injured During Emergency Restoration Work in Karbook

Karbook, August 6: Three employees of the Electricity Department were injured, including one who is reported to be in critical condition, after an electric shock incident occurred during emergency restoration work near Bairagi Dukan, adjacent to Goria Mission School, in Karbook Sub-Division on Thursday night at around 10:30 PM.

According to local sources, a tree fell onto a 33kV electricity pole due to heavy rainfall and strong winds, damaging the power infrastructure and causing disruption to electricity supply in the area. While carrying out repair work to restore power, the workers reportedly came into contact with a live electrical line.

The critically injured worker has been identified as Dharmendra Tripura, while two other line staff also sustained injuries during the incident.

Fortunately, social workers Banu Debbarma, Ajiram Reang, and Tapan Debbarma, who were returning from Agartala, arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. They immediately assisted in rescuing the injured workers and arranged transportation to Karbook Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Eyewitnesses alleged that no official vehicle from the Electricity Department was available to transport the injured workers, forcing those present to seek help from passing vehicles. The incident has raised concerns among local residents regarding the availability of emergency support, safety equipment, and transport facilities for frontline electricity workers.

At the hospital, SDMO Dr. Dhanomani Tripura and Dr. Sarnalata Debbarma provided emergency medical treatment. The condition of Dharmendra Tripura remains critical, while the other two injured workers are receiving medical care.

Local residents have called upon the Electricity Department to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and to strengthen safety protocols, ensure the availability of emergency vehicles, and provide adequate protective equipment to field staff engaged in hazardous repair work.

The exact circumstances surrounding the accident are yet to be officially confirmed, and the Electricity Department has not released an official statement.
