The Arunachal Pradesh government has announced a phased relocation plan for undocumented immigrants, including Bangladeshi nationals and Chakma-Hajong communities,

Itanagar, — The Arunachal Pradesh government is set to begin relocating undocumented immigrants to designated detention centers across the state in a systematic, phased approach. This development was shared by Mutchu Mithi, Advisor to the Home Minister, following a high-level meeting held on Tuesday to address concerns regarding illegal immigration.
The meeting was chaired by Home Minister Mama Natung and saw participation from deputy commissioners and police superintendents of major districts such as Papum Pare, Itanagar Capital Region, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit, Namsai, and Changlang. Representatives from the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) were also present.
Mithi stated that the home department has been actively monitoring the situation for the past three to four weeks. "Instructions have already been issued to the district authorities to identify and verify undocumented individuals. Based on this, more rigorous search operations will now be conducted," he said.
The focus remains on detecting illegal immigrants, particularly from Bangladesh, as well as members of the Chakma and Hajong communities, whose legal status in the region has long been debated.
The state administration affirmed its commitment to upholding law and order while ensuring due process in handling the matter of illegal residency.
