Tipra Motha party’s senior leader and MLA Ranjit Debbarma has officially written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting national recognition for Tripura’s former Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.

In his letter, Ranjit Debbarma proposed multiple initiatives to honour the Maharaja’s contributions, including:

  • Naming a road in Delhi after Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya.

  • Installing a statue of the Maharaja in a prominent location in Delhi.

  • Creating replicas of temples associated with the Manikya dynasty at a national level to showcase Tripura’s cultural heritage.

According to Ranjit Debbarma, Maharaja Bir Bikram was not only a historical figure for Tripura but also played a crucial role in India’s pre-independence history. "It is time that his legacy is recognised beyond the borders of Tripura and acknowledged as part of India's national history," the MLA stated.

He highlighted that Maharaja Bir Bikram was instrumental in modernising Tripura and contributed significantly to education, architecture, and cultural preservation before the state's merger with India.

The letter has reportedly been forwarded to the Prime Minister's Office, and Tipra Motha party leaders are hopeful for a positive response from the central government.
