Kokborok Film ‘Manthothok’ Blends Comedy, Drama and Romance

“Manthothok” Kokborok comedy-drama-romance film written by Stephen Debbarma. Set in the fictional village of Bogla Kami, the story explores love, poverty, crime, gambling, greed and social problems. The film follows Chwngsal and Yalwkti, whose relationship faces numerous obstacles, while Inspector Ratiranjan Debbarma investigates criminal activities in the village. The film brings together a team of Kokborok artists, singers and technicians to present both entertainment and a social message.

Tripura: A new Kokborok-language film titled “Manthothok” is set to present a mix of comedy, drama and romance, while also highlighting social problems and the struggles faced by people in a troubled village.

Written by Stephen Debbarma, the film is set in Bogla Kami, a village portrayed as being affected by poverty, lack of education, gambling, robbery and other social problems. The story follows Chwngsal and Yalwkti, two young people who share a genuine love but struggle to stay together because of numerous obstacles surrounding their lives.

The film also explores how poverty and a lack of empathy can push people toward greed and wrongdoing. As some villagers become increasingly desperate for money and choose the wrong path, the situation eventually attracts the attention of the police. Inspector Ratiranjan Debbarma arrives to investigate the incidents, adding another important dimension to the story.

The screenplay, story and dialogues have been written by Stephen Debbarma, who is also credited with cinematography, editing, production design and VFX.

The film’s music is associated with Shyem Studio, Swkang Melody Cafe Studio and Lamsok Studio, while the background score is by Shyem Music. Lyrics have been contributed by Anima Debbarma Jamatia, Manik Debbarma, Ratan Thung Jamatia and Bishram Debbarma.

The film features singers including Swkang Debbarma, Bipasa Reang, Manik Debbarma, Parmita Reang, Budhi Debbarma, Anamika Reang, Ratan Jamatia and Sarati Kalai.

Choreography has been handled by Swarup Debbarma and Suman Debbarma, with costume design by Swarup of Kokyaphang Collection. Makeup is credited to Bsolna and Amit Debbarma, while Shyem Debbarma is responsible for sound design.

The project also includes contributions in online marketing and digital promotion, with Bijesh Softech handling online marketing and Hamchanai Studio YouTube Channel associated with digital marketing and distribution efforts.

With its combination of love, humour, social issues, crime and village life, Manthothok aims to offer audiences an entertaining yet socially meaningful Kokborok film.
