New Delhi, In a significant political development, a delegation from the TIPRA Motha Party, led by royal scion and party founder Bubagra Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, met with J.P. Nadda, the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in the national capital today. The meeting, held at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, focused on key issues affecting the indigenous people of Tripura.
Among the main demands raised during the meeting was the immediate implementation of the (SIR) of the electoral roll in Tripura. The TIPRA Motha leaders emphasized that the revision is crucial to ensuring a free, fair, and inclusive democratic process in the state, particularly in the tribal-dominated areas.
The TIPRA team also pressed for the speedy execution of the TIPRASA Accord, which had been promised by the Government of India before the recent Lok Sabha elections. The Accord is seen as a vital roadmap for safeguarding the constitutional, political, economic, and land rights of the indigenous Tiprasa people.
The meeting was attended by Smt. Kriti Devi Debbarman, the newly elected Member of Parliament from Tripura East, along with other elected representatives and party leaders. They jointly conveyed the growing frustration among the indigenous population over delays in fulfilling the commitments made by the central government.
Apart from domestic electoral issues, the delegation also highlighted concerns over national security in light of the current unrest and reported atrocities against minority communities in neighboring Bangladesh. The team underlined that the deteriorating situation across the border could have a direct impact on peace and security in Tripura and the Northeast region.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Bubagra Pradyot said,
“We have reminded the BJP leadership of the promises made to our people. The TIPRASA Accord is not just a document; it is a commitment to justice and dignity for the indigenous people of Tripura. We hope the central leadership will act on it without delay.”
The meeting is being seen as part of TIPRA Motha's continued strategic engagement with the central government to ensure the rights of the Tiprasa people are respected and upheld. Whether this results in concrete policy moves in the coming weeks remains to be seen.
