Police Destroy Large Cannabis Plantations in Jatrapur Area
Police carried out a major anti-narcotics operation in the Jatrapur police station area, destroying over one lakh mature cannabis plants across 22 plantations. Led by the Officer-in-Charge and supported by police personnel and TSR jawans, the operation was conducted in forest areas of Jagatrampara ADC village and South Paharpur. The drive was carried out smoothly despite dense fog, and police stated that similar operations would continue based on intelligence inputs.
In a major anti-narcotics operation, police claimed to have destroyed a huge number of mature cannabis plants during an early morning raid on Tuesday amid dense fog in the Jatrapur police station area.
According to police sources, the operation was conducted under the leadership of Jatrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Siti Kantha Bardhan. A large contingent comprising police officers, constables, staff, and TSR jawans from the 14th, 9th, and 11th battalions took part in the drive.
Speaking to the media at around noon on Wednesday, the OC said that the first phase of the operation began at 7 am, during which cannabis plants were cut and destroyed across 12 plots in the southern Taichhama forest area of Jagatrampara ADC village. After completing the operation there, the team returned to Kathalia.
Later, the police team proceeded from the Kathalia commercial area, moving north along the Sonamura–Bilonia bypass road for nearly 12 kilometres, and reached the Thammamura forest area of South Paharpur. There, cannabis plantations spread across 10 plots were identified and destroyed.
The OC stated that while some individuals were seen observing the operation from a distance, the owners of the cannabis gardens did not attempt to resist, reportedly due to the large presence of security personnel. In total, cannabis plants from 22 plantations—estimated to be over one lakh plants—were cut and destroyed successfully despite the dense fog.
The Officer-in-Charge further added that such operations would continue in the coming days based on specific intelligence inputs.
