Meghalaya CM Conrad K. Sangma Inaugurates New Directorate of Community & Rural Development Office in Shillong
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the new office building of the Directorate of Community & Rural Development (C&RD) at Lower Lachumiere, Shillong. He praised the department for ensuring government schemes reach the last mile and for significantly improving scheme implementation and disbursement across rural areas. Sangma said the new building will strengthen coordination and enhance the department’s ability to deliver meaningful development at the grassroots.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed office building of the Directorate of Community & Rural Development (C&RD) at Lower Lachumiere, Shillong, marking a significant milestone in strengthening administrative infrastructure for rural welfare programmes.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the C&RD Department has been one of the state’s most crucial agencies in bringing development closer to the people. He noted that the department has consistently ensured that government welfare schemes reach the last mile, especially in remote and underserved villages.
Sangma praised the department for its efficient functioning, highlighting that the team's commitment has led to faster disbursement of scheme funds, higher transparency, and improved monitoring of rural projects. He added that these efforts have resulted in tangible improvements in the lives of rural households across Meghalaya.
The Chief Minister further said the new office building will enhance coordination between district and state-level teams, improve planning and execution of programmes, and support the department’s expanding role in delivering social and economic development to grassroots communities.
Senior officials, departmental staff, and representatives from rural development initiatives were present at the event. The inauguration reflects the state government’s continued focus on empowering rural institutions and strengthening the administrative backbone that supports community-led growth.
