Agartala, October 7, 2026: Tipra Motha founder and former royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya has announced his decision to step away from active politics, saying that years of public life, negotiations and political responsibilities have taken a personal toll on his health, family and peace of mind.

In a two-page letter titled “A Letter to the People of Tripura,” dated October 6, 2026, Pradyot said that his public life had been guided by a commitment to ensuring that Tripura moves forward and that its indigenous people and future generations receive their rightful rights, dignity and constitutional protections.

Reflecting on his political journey, he highlighted the implementation of the Bru settlement and the struggle for the Tiprasa Accord as major chapters of his public life. He said the creation of TIPRA Motha was aimed at bringing different groups fighting for Tiprasa rights onto a single platform under the principle of “One platform, One voice, One Thansa.”

Pradyot expressed gratitude for the growth of the movement, noting that it had expanded from a small group of leaders to a political organisation with 3,428 elected Village Council leaders, 24 MDCs and 13 MLAs, according to his letter.

However, he also acknowledged the personal difficulties associated with his political journey. He said years of travelling, public responsibilities, negotiations and continuous struggles had affected his health, family life and mental peace.

Regarding the Tiprasa Accord, Pradyot said the negotiations had been particularly difficult and emotionally challenging. He maintained that the Accord was bigger than any individual, political party or political position and belongs to the people and future generations.

He urged that the commitments of the Tiprasa Accord be implemented within the stipulated timeframe, referring to assurances made by the Prime Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Tripura.

“I am stepping away from active politics”

Making his decision clear, Pradyot wrote that he was stepping away from active politics and would no longer hold political office or participate in day-to-day political activities.

He clarified that the decision was not a temporary withdrawal or one taken in anger, but a deeply personal decision made after years of service and reflection.

He said he now wants to spend more time with his family, focus on his health and recover parts of himself that he feels he had neglected over many years of public life.

At the same time, Pradyot stressed that leaving active politics does not mean distancing himself from Tripura. He said he would remain connected to the people and continue to stand for the dignity, rights and future of indigenous communities.

He also said he would remain available whenever his experience, advice or assistance could be of service.

Concluding his letter, Pradyot expressed gratitude to the people of Tripura for their love and trust and said that, despite mistakes and disappointments, he had never stopped believing in Tripura.

He expressed hope that future generations would inherit a more just, united and confident Tripura, where people live with dignity and the dreams for which many have sacrificed are never forgotten.

Pradyot Bikram Manikya signed the letter on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, bringing a significant chapter of his active political career to a close.
