GOMATI, TRIPURA: Tight security and prohibitory measures have been put in place in parts of Gomati district ahead of the fresh polling and re-polling scheduled for three Village Committee seats under the ongoing TTAADC Village Committee General Elections 2026.

District Magistrate and Collector Rinku Lather, IAS, issued an order on October 2 under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, with the stated objective of maintaining peace and preventing electoral malpractice.

Polling is scheduled for October 3 from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM in areas under Gamaria Village Committee in Matabari R.D. Block and Paharpur Village Committee in Amarpur R.D. Block. The designated polling locations include Warengbari S.B. School and Kunjaram Para J.B. School.

The prohibitory order came into effect at 6:00 PM on October 2 and will remain in force until 6:00 AM on October 4 in the concerned ADC areas.

Under the order, gatherings of more than five people carrying weapons or objects that could be used as weapons have been prohibited. Public meetings, gatherings and loudspeaker use have also been restricted within specified areas and within 200 metres of polling stations.

The order further restricts groups of two or more motorcycles or vehicles travelling together, while security checks have been strengthened along the Udaipur–Amarpur highway to monitor vehicular movement.

Election officials, police, CAPF personnel and authorised media representatives have been exempted from the restrictions while performing their official duties. Eligible voters carrying valid election identity cards have also been permitted to travel to polling stations, subject to the specified conditions.

The order states that routine government and private offices, educational activities, market operations and public transport will continue, while religious and social functions are also permitted under the specified conditions.

The District Magistrate has warned that violations of the prohibitory order may lead to criminal proceedings under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
