CPIM Karbook Hosts Campaign for All India Kisan Sabha State Conference, Farmers’ Issues Highlighted

Karbook, Gomati District | August 27, 2026: A campaign and awareness programme was held in Karbook today in support of the upcoming State Conference of the All India Kisan Sabha, with emphasis on protecting the interests of farmers, strengthening agriculture and raising issues affecting rural communities.

The programme focused on the challenges faced by farmers in Tripura, including rising agricultural input costs, availability of fertilisers, seeds and pesticides, irrigation facilities, fair prices for agricultural produce and the impact of natural disasters on farming communities.

According to the material circulated during the programme, agriculture remains one of the major pillars of Tripura’s economy. A large proportion of the state’s farmers are small and marginal farmers, while a significant number of families in hilly areas depend on shifting cultivation.

Focus on Farmers’ Problems

The organisers highlighted several concerns affecting farmers, including increasing production costs and difficulties in receiving remunerative prices for agricultural products. They also called for stronger government support for irrigation, agricultural inputs and rural employment.

The programme also referred to the role of irrigation and agricultural development initiatives in improving production. Participants stressed the need to strengthen existing irrigation projects and ensure that farmers receive the necessary support to continue cultivation.

Eight Key Demands Raised

During the campaign, a number of demands were highlighted in the interest of farmers and rural communities.

1. Minimum Support Price:
The organisers demanded that farmers should receive the minimum price for their crops according to the Swaminathan Commission recommendation of C2+50%.

2. Affordable Agricultural Inputs:
The government should ensure the supply of fertilisers, seeds and pesticides at affordable prices.

3. Strengthening Irrigation:
All irrigation projects across the state should be made fully functional and successful so that farmers can receive adequate water for cultivation.

4. Autonomous District Council Development:
The organisers demanded immediate passage of the proposed 125th Constitutional Amendment in the interest of development in Autonomous District Council areas.

5. Cancellation of Smart Meter Project:
A demand was raised for the cancellation of the smart meter project.

6. Stop Electricity Bill Hikes:
The organisers demanded that further increases in electricity bills should be stopped.

7. Electricity Concession for Irrigation:
They also demanded concessions on electricity bills for irrigation projects to reduce the financial burden on farmers.

8. Strengthening MGNREGA:
The programme called for strengthening the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and raised concerns regarding the rural employment programme referred to in the campaign material as “G-RAM-G”.

Call for Successful State Conference

The campaign urged farmers and workers to make the upcoming All India Kisan Sabha State Conference a success and use the platform to raise issues concerning agriculture, farmers’ rights, rural employment and economic security.

The organisers said that ensuring fair prices for agricultural produce, affordable farming inputs, reliable irrigation and stronger rural employment opportunities are essential for improving the livelihoods of farmers.

The three-day state conference is scheduled to be held from September 1 to 3, 2026, at Town Hall, Agartala, according to the material provided.
