GMP, TYF and TSU Hold Mass Sit-In in Khowai Over Nine-Point Charter of Demands

A mass protest was held in Khowai by GMP, TYF and TSU, with former minister Naresh Jamatia, former TTAADC CEM Ranjit Debbarma and former MLA Padma Kumar Debbarma among those attending. The organisations called for prompt action on their nine-point demands.

Khowai, Tripura: The Khowai Sub-Divisional Committees of GMP, TYF and TSU organised a mass sit-in protest in Khowai, raising a nine-point charter of demands concerning tribal administration, employment and cultural recognition.

Among the key demands raised by the organisations were the announcement of Village Committee elections, creation of employment centres under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), and inclusion of the Kokborok language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.

Former minister Naresh Jamatia, former TTAADC Chief Executive Member Ranjit Debbarma, former MLA Padma Kumar Debbarma, along with other leaders, workers and supporters, attended the programme.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers highlighted the nine demands and urged the concerned authorities to take immediate steps toward their implementation.

The organisers said the issues raised during the programme are important for the social, administrative, economic and cultural interests of the tribal community and called for appropriate action from the authorities.
