Teliāmurā:
An auto-rickshaw met with a serious accident late at night while returning from the Tring festival, after it skidded off the national highway and plunged into the Khowai River near the Vishwakarma Temple at Chakmaghat, under Mungiakami Police Station limits.
The accident left four people injured, including two young women and two young men. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Ramesh Debbarma, a resident of Haldia under Mungiakami, sustained serious injuries and was initially admitted to the Teliāmurā Sub-Divisional Hospital.
Sources said that although Ramesh received treatment throughout the night at the hospital, his clothes remained completely soaked with water from the river. The other three injured persons, who had suffered comparatively minor injuries, managed to admit him to the hospital and later returned home.
Tragically, due to his wet clothes not being removed, Ramesh reportedly developed severe cold overnight, leading to a sharp deterioration in his condition. On Sunday morning, Dr. Shashwati Majumdar examined him and, finding his condition critical, immediately referred him to GB Hospital, Agartala for advanced medical treatment.
Meanwhile, police from Mungiakami Police Station, upon receiving information in the morning, visited the accident site and carried out an inspection. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
