After 25 years of uninterrupted Left Front rule, the local construction and contracting scene in Shantir Bazar is now reportedly dominated by influential contractors under the current Ram government, with local power figures like Pankaj Mallik of Mallik Kong controlling projects under the DWS Department.

Recently, residents of Manikgarh, under Sabroom Nagar Panchayat, halted ongoing construction work on the boundary wall of an overhead tank at the old Fire Service Office due to concerns over poor-quality construction. Despite supervision by the Sabroom DWS Department, the workmanship of contractor Pankaj Mallik came under serious scrutiny.

Locals allege that the masonry and plastering used in the construction are of substandard quality. While the wall should have had a plaster thickness of 2.5 inches, less than 1 inch was actually applied. The site masons admitted to the issue, and due to perceived negligence on the part of the supervising engineer, the residents took it upon themselves to stop the work.

The incident has sparked anger and concern among the local population, who have demanded urgent intervention and corrective action from the department to ensure the project meets proper safety and quality standards.
