Fresh Incident of Molestation in Tripura Raises Concerns Over Women’s Safety in Public Transport
A Tripuri girl was allegedly molested and faced an attempted rape on August 5, 2025, inside a passenger bus (TR07 1226) traveling from Bishalgarh to Bishramganj, Tripura. The victim, returning from Guwahati, had fallen asleep when a non-tribal male passenger reportedly took advantage of her. The incident has triggered rising tension in the region, particularly among the indigenous Tiprasa community, following a similar molestation case two months ago in Agartala. Police have launched an investigation, and community leaders are demanding immediate justice and improved safety for women in public transport.
Just two months after a college student was reportedly molested inside an auto-rickshaw in Agartala, another disturbing incident has surfaced in Tripura. On August 5, 2025, a young Tripuri girl was allegedly molested and faced an attempted rape inside a passenger bus bearing registration number TR07 1226 while traveling from Bishalgarh to Bishramganj.
According to sources, the victim was returning home to Mastar Para, Bishramganj, after a long journey from Guwahati. Exhausted, she fell asleep in her seat. Taking advantage of the situation, a non-tribal male co-passenger, who was standing nearby, allegedly committed the heinous act.
The victim, traumatized by the incident, later informed her family and local leaders. Tension has since started growing in the region, especially among the Tiprasa (indigenous) community, demanding justice and immediate action.
Community leaders have raised concerns over the increasing cases of molestation in public transport, especially targeting tribal girls. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many condemning the lack of security for women in buses and auto-rickshaws.
So far, police have not released an official statement regarding any arrest. However, the Bishramganj Police Station is believed to have initiated an investigation following a formal complaint.
Social and student organizations are now calling for:
· Installation of CCTV cameras in public transport,
· Strict background checks for bus staff,
· Speedy investigation and arrest of the accused,
· Awareness drives on women’s safety.
This latest incident comes at a time when public confidence in women’s safety in Tripura’s transport system is already shaken. Unless swift and strong action is taken, the situation could escalate, further damaging communal harmony and public trust.
