CPI(M) to Hold Dharna in Karbook Against Power Tariff Hike and Smart Meters on July 22

Karbook, Tripura | The Communist Party of India (Marxist) – CPI(M) Karbook Sub-Divisional Committee has officially notified that it will organize a peaceful public sit-in demonstration (Gana Dharna) on 22nd July 2025 in front of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) office in Karbook.

The demonstration will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, raising public concerns about the increased electricity tariffs and the state-wide implementation of smart meters.

According to the CPI(M) committee, there is growing unrest and anxiety among the people, particularly in rural regions, over the financial burden of higher electricity bills and the fear of technical and billing issues from the smart meters.

In a formal letter addressed to the Senior Manager of TSECL, Karbook Division, the party has requested the officer’s presence in the office during the protest so that he can hear the concerns of the demonstrators and provide necessary assurances.

The CPI(M) emphasized that the protest will be peaceful and democratic, and urged the power department to take public sentiment seriously and reconsider the hike and smart meter decisions.
