The Tripura government has constituted a 15-member Special Task Force (STF) in West Tripura district to detect, identify, and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar, including Rohingyas, who have settled unlawfully in the region.

According to an official circular issued by Dr. Kiran Kumar, Superintendent of Police of West Tripura, the task force is formed as per the directions of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The ministry had earlier instructed all states and Union Territories to scrutinize the citizenship status of suspected illegal immigrants and initiate deportation procedures for those found ineligible.

The STF will work under the supervision of West Tripura District Police and will record biometric and demographic data of the individuals identified as Bangladeshi nationals or Rohingyas through detailed inquiries. The data will be uploaded on the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Foreigners Identification Portal (https://identification.mha.gov.in).

Once the verification is completed, the individuals will be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF), which will coordinate their deportation to the respective countries.

This move comes amid increasing concerns over cross-border infiltration and its impact on local demography and internal security.
