CITU Observes WFTU Anniversary with Call for International Workers’ Unity
A CITU meeting in Tripura marked the WFTU’s 81st anniversary under the theme of building international unity among working people against capitalist exploitation. Leaders discussed workers’ rights, solidarity and strengthening organised movements.
AGARTALA, TRIPURA: A meeting was organised by the Tripura State Committee of CITU to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU).
The meeting, held at the CITU state office, focused on the theme “Build International Unity of Working People to Resist Capitalist Exploitation.” CITU State President Manik Dey, General Secretary Shankar Prasad Datta and other leaders addressed the gathering.
In his speech, Manik Dey said that workers’ unity needs to be strengthened in response to developments that he characterised as imperialist aggression. He also highlighted the role of the working class in building broader platforms and referred to the INDIA bloc in this context.
Dey said CITU would continue working to mobilise workers and other sections facing exploitation and deprivation. He urged greater awareness and collective action among working people.
The WFTU’s official website has listed October 3, 2026, as an International Action Day marking the organisation’s activities around its 81st anniversary.
