Chawmanu Villagers Block Road, Demand Footbridge and Safe Drinking Water

Dhalai, Tripura, August 28, 2026: Villagers of Debendra Karbari Para, under the Chawmanu Village Committee in Dhalai district, staged a road blockade on Friday morning, demanding a permanent solution to their long-standing problems of safe drinking water and connectivity.

According to the villagers, the blockade began at around 6:00 AM on the Chawmanu–Manu road. Residents said they are facing severe difficulties during the monsoon when the water level of the nearby river rises, making it extremely difficult to travel between the two sides.

The villagers claimed that the situation also affects the education of local children. During periods of heavy rain and rising river water, students reportedly struggle to cross the river and are often unable to attend school.

Residents said they have submitted written applications to the concerned authorities several times, but alleged that no permanent action has been taken so far.

Another major concern raised by the villagers is the lack of safe drinking water. They alleged that many families still depend on stream water for their daily needs. When the water becomes muddy during the monsoon, residents reportedly face serious difficulties in collecting clean water.

The villagers are demanding the construction of a footbridge (foot bridge) over the river and a reliable drinking-water facility for the area.

Residents have warned that they will not withdraw the road blockade unless their demands are addressed and a concrete assurance is provided by the authorities. The protest has once again highlighted the connectivity and drinking-water challenges faced by people living in remote areas of Dhalai district.
