Huge Consignment of Ganja Seized at Dharmanagar Railway Station, Six Arrested

Dharmanagar, Sept 21:
On the eve of Mahalaya, police from the Government Railway Police (GRP) Station at Dharmanagar recovered a massive consignment of cannabis from the Deoghar Express. The train had departed from Agartala for Deoghar and was intercepted at Dharmanagar on Saturday night. During the search operation, police seized around 75 kilograms of dried ganja, valued at approximately ₹7.5 lakh in the black market.

Investigations revealed that several canteen workers employed on the train were secretly involved in organized drug trafficking under the guise of catering services. While serving food to passengers, they allegedly smuggled cannabis in their bags and luggage.

In the operation, six temporary railway canteen staff were arrested. The accused have been identified as Priyanshu Das Sheikh, Chandan Kumar Saha, Nitish Kumar, Foyez Ali, Mukesh Kumar, and Sunny Kumar. Most of them hail from Bihar and West Bengal. Police recovered the narcotics from their bags and heavy luggage.

Dharmanagar GRP Officer-in-Charge Uttam Kaloi confirmed that a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused will be produced before court on Sunday. Police are also investigating the wider network involved in the smuggling racket.

Preliminary findings suggest the consignment was sourced from Agartala and intended for smuggling to other states. The seizure has sparked major sensation across the region.
