YTA Demands Action Against Police Personnel Over Alleged Custodial Assault of Woman in Dhalai

DHALAI / AGARTALA: The Young Tripuri Association (YTA) has submitted a formal memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, Dhalai District, demanding immediate suspension, registration of a First Information Report (FIR), and arrest of police personnel attached to the Nepaltila Police Station. The organization has alleged severe misconduct, illegal detention, custodial assault, and criminal intimidation involving a local woman, identified as Miss Ruma Rupini.

According to the complaint submitted by the YTA, two plainclothes individuals claiming to be police officers visited Miss Ruma Rupini's village in Baidhya Manik Para under the Manu Police Station area on the morning of September 19, 2026. After making initial inquiries, the individuals allegedly returned later that day and compelled her to accompany them to Nepaltila Police Station, citing an undisclosed complaint filed against her

The memorandum states that Miss Rupini was detained at the police station for several hours without being informed of the legal grounds for her detention or the nature of any charges. It further alleges that she was kept inside a storeroom and subsequently subjected to physical violence by police personnel, who allegedly beat and kicked her with a stick.

The YTA highlighted that the Officer-in-Charge of Nepaltila Police Station was present during the incident but failed to intervene despite the victim's pleas for protection. Miss Rupini was reportedly dropped back at her residence later that evening in a distressed and injured state, following which she underwent a medical examination.

The organization has urged senior authorities to initiate immediate departmental and criminal proceedings against the accused officials based on the available medical evidence and witness statements.
