Class 10 Student’s Suicide in Dhalai Prompts Minister’s Visit and Hostel Safety Review

Following the tragic suicide of Class 10 student Jakim Marak at a boys' hostel in Dhalai district, Minister Bikash Debbarma, along with officials, visited the 82 Miles Proper ST Boys Hostel to investigate. The Minister emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and directed immediate action to resolve issues in both boys’ and girls’ hostels in the area.

A few days ago, a heartbreaking incident shook Dhalai district when Jakim Marak, a Class 10 student, was found dead by suicide inside his hostel. A precious life was lost, raising serious questions about the circumstances that led to such a painful decision.

In response to the incident, Minister Bikash Debbarma visited the 82 Miles Proper ST Boys Hostel in the Nalkata area of Dhalai district to investigate the matter. He was accompanied by MDC Bidyut Debbarma and officials from the Tribal Welfare Department. During the visit, they held detailed discussions with hostel teachers and authorities, seeking to understand the factors that may have contributed to the tragedy.

Minister Debbarma stated that the incident had deeply affected everyone and emphasized the importance of parents, teachers, and all sections of society being more attentive to children’s mental health. He stressed the need to ensure that addiction, neglect, or emotional distress does not harm young lives.

On the same day, the Minister also visited the 82 Miles Girls Hostel and the 82 English Medium Residential School. He identified various issues at the hostels and directed authorities to take immediate action to resolve them. Minister Debbarma reaffirmed his commitment to creating a safer, more caring, and compassionate educational environment through collective efforts.
