AGARTALA / KARBOOK — A major political controversy has erupted following an attack on Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) General Secretary Swapan Debbarma at the Hejamara RD Block area. Supporter units from the Karbook subdivision and broader IPFT leadership have demanded the immediate arrest of Tipra Motha MDC Rabindra Debbarma, alleging the assault was carried out under his direct leadership.

Time & Location: The attack occurred around 11:40 AM on September 8 near the Hejamara RD Block office while Swapan Debbarma was en route to Khowai.
The Allegations: According to IPFT supporters, a group identified as Tipra Motha workers intercepted Debbarma's vehicle, vandalized it, and physically assaulted him.
Injuries: Swapan Debbarma suffered head injuries in the attack and was admitted to the trauma care center at GBP Hospital in Agartala.
Police Role Questioned: Although police personnel were stationed near the block office for the Village Council election nomination process, IPFT and allied leaders questioned why security forces did not prevent the assault earlier.
Political Strain on the Ruling Alliance
The incident has caused severe friction among coalition partners. IPFT, Tipra Motha, and the BJP are currently contesting the upcoming Village Council elections as part of an electoral alliance. State Minister and IPFT leader Shukla Charan Noatia condemned the physical violence, stating that clashes between grassroots workers undermine the spirit of the governing coalition.
An investigation into the FIR remains ongoing as police monitor the situation in Hejamara to prevent further clashes.
