Chattogram, July 30:
In a dramatic case of impersonation and fraud, one Rubel Chakma, hailing from the remote Barkal region, has been apprehended by Battalion Ansar authorities for allegedly posing as an Ansar officer and cheating job seekers out of several lakhs of taka.

According to officials, Rubel had a full Ansar uniform stitched by a local tailor during his stay in Safipur, Gazipur, and posted photos of himself wearing the uniform on Facebook to build a false identity. To further authenticate his appearance, he reportedly purchased a walkie-talkie online and posed with it in staged photos. He also acquired a fake promotion crest, which he displayed on social media to claim higher rank and legitimacy.

Now residing in Chattogram city, Rubel allegedly collected approximately five lakh taka from at least three individuals, promising them jobs in the Ansar Battalion. The victims, upon realizing the scam, tracked him down and detained him with the help of their relatives.

The Battalion Ansar unit later arrived at the scene and formally took Rubel into custody for interrogation and further legal proceedings.

However, controversy surfaced when journalist Alamgir Manik posted on Facebook, claiming that Rubel was arrested based on secret intelligence. The post has since sparked criticism, with many pointing out the misleading nature of such a statement, especially when local witnesses confirmed that the arrest was a result of the victims’ direct intervention.

Authorities have yet to officially comment on the journalist’s claim, but the incident has raised serious questions about the abuse of uniforms, impersonation of security forces, and the unchecked spread of false narratives online.
