Agartala, Tripura — A major rally is scheduled for 7th July 2025 in Tripura, calling for action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. The event has stirred both hope and uncertainty, with the local government yet to clarify its stance on the issue.

On 5th July 2025, MLA Ranjit Debbarma confirmed the details of the rally, which will start at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan and move through significant areas like Durga Bari, Tulsipoti, Kaman Chowmuhani, Office Chowmuhani, RMS Chowmuhani, Dainik Sambad, and culminate at Astabal Ground. The rally is set to mobilize residents in protest against the increasing number of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the state.

The rally's organizing body, led by Ranjit Debbarma, has been vocal about the central government's push. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a directive mandating all states and union territories to verify the credentials of suspected illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar within 30 days. If the legal status of individuals cannot be confirmed, they are to be deported. This includes setting up district-level detention centers and requiring monthly reports on deportation progress.

However, despite these national-level orders, the Tripura government has remained silent on the issue. This lack of clarity has only fueled public frustration and skepticism, especially with the rally approaching in just two days.

At a recent press meet, the rally organizers—including Birandra Tripura, Convener of Tipra Hoda, and Hahananda Debbarma, President of Tipra Motha—spoke out. Ashit Das, Ashiram Reang, and Suran Debbarma also voiced their concerns about the growing presence of illegal migrants and the perceived inaction from the state government. MLA Ranjit Debbarma emphasized that the rally's aim was to draw attention to the urgent need for action, stressing the importance of addressing illegal immigration that is reportedly exacerbating issues like unemployment and security in Tripura.

The rally also attracted attention due to the potential involvement of Bubagra Pradyot, the founder of Tipra Motha, who is a well-known figure in Tripura’s political landscape. While the organizers invited him as a non-political and non-religious figure, representing his community as a Tiprasa, Pradyot declined to comment on the press meet. In a conversation with the media, Pradyot indicated that he was not yet fully informed about the event but would engage with both the Tripura Chief Minister and MLA Ranjit Debbarma to better understand the situation.

The question now remains: Will the rally proceed as planned on 7th July 2025? And, more critically, will the Tripura government finally take decisive action on the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, or will it remain silent? As the tension builds and the date draws near, only time will tell.
