KALYANPUR: A dispute over access to a public road in the Chankhala area near South Ghilatali escalated recently, prompting intervention from the police and sub-divisional administration.

Local residents alleged that a bamboo fence had been erected across an important brick-paved road used by farmers and other residents for daily transportation. According to their account, the development followed an alleged dispute involving a garden and boundary fencing in the hilly area between Watilang and Chankhala.

The residents claimed that the blockade had remained in place for several weeks, causing difficulties for farmers and others who depended on the road.

Tensions reportedly increased after a JCB was brought in and excavation work began along the road. Villagers gathered at the site and objected to the work, according to local accounts.

Residents also levelled allegations against B.P. Meena, whom they described as the husband of TRPC Chairperson Patal Kanya Jamatia. They alleged that he confronted villagers during the protest and made objectionable remarks. These claims remain allegations and have not been independently established.

Kalyanpur Police and DCM Haripada Sarkar subsequently reached the spot and intervened. Following discussions, the administration directed that the excavated portion be filled and the bamboo barricade removed.

The road was subsequently opened for public movement, providing relief to local residents and farmers.

Officials have reportedly decided to hold a joint tripartite meeting on Tuesday at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office to discuss the dispute and work towards a permanent solution.
