Sriharikota: India is preparing for another major milestone in its space programme with the launch of the GSLV-F17 mission, which will carry the advanced EOS-05 Earth observation satellite into a sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit.

The GSLV-F17 is the 19th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). The mission is scheduled to lift off from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.

The launch vehicle features a 4-metre-diameter ogive-shaped composite payload fairing, designed to protect the satellite during its journey through the atmosphere.

The EOS-05 is an advanced Earth observation spacecraft equipped with hyperspectral imaging technology. The satellite is designed to collect detailed information about Earth’s surface from a geosynchronous orbit.

According to the mission description, EOS-05 represents a significant step in India’s Earth-observation capabilities and is being positioned as India’s first imaging satellite operating from a geosynchronous orbit.

The mission is expected to demonstrate India’s growing ability to deploy sophisticated space-based imaging systems and strengthen the country’s capabilities in Earth observation and remote sensing.
