Tripura: A video circulating on social media ahead of the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections in Tripura has triggered controversy, with claims that a Tipra Motha rally featured slogans allegedly targeting the Chakma and Mog community and calling them “Bangladeshi” and asking them to “go back.”
The video has drawn reactions from different sections, while supporters of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) have claimed that the viral footage is edited or manipulated. According to the party's complaint, the video allegedly combines footage from a Tipra Motha campaign march with audio taken from an unrelated incident.
Amid the controversy, FIRs have reportedly been filed at Manu Police Station in the name of Prasenjit Chakma and at Karbook Police Station in the names of Prasenjit Chakma and Jyoti Moy Chakma, in connection with the matter. The allegations and the exact contents of the FIRs would need to be established from the police records.
The Tipra Motha Party has also submitted a deputation/complaint to the Tripura State Election Commission, seeking an inquiry into the viral video and appropriate action against those responsible for creating or circulating allegedly manipulated content. The party has reportedly requested intervention to prevent the circulation of material that could create communal tension during the election period.
